Blended Learning Model

I would like everyone to read this article I found on www.eschoolnews.com, it is truly eye opening as to the direction that education is moving.  It is the article titled, Blended Learning on the Rise, it should be the second article down.

You may have to copy and paste this...Sorry!

Blanket Management

Since I am studying for my administration degree, I wanted to make a post about management and one practice in particular that drives me crazy that administrators sometimes do.  For example every building has somebody that is either on their phone, don't turn in their lesson plans, etc.  Everyone knows who it is, or what is going on, then the Principal sends out an email to "all staff" and preaches a sermon on turning in lesson plans on time, or whatever the issue is.  As a result everyone that is doing their job gets a negative email, instead of the Principal walking up to whoever the person is and telling them to handle their business.  That is one thing I have vowed to not do as a Principal if I ever get to be one.
Another example is when the whole staff gets chewed out at a faculty meeting for getting to school late, and most of the teachers are sitting there knowing they get there early everyday.  Then when the staff gets to checking it is only two teachers, but instead of saying something to the two teachers, the Principal chews the whole staff out.  This is just one thing I don't like that administrators have done to me in the past.

New Standards in Education

Good morning, I am Jonathan Williams, a Special Education teacher in the Warren County School district in Bowling Green, KY.  I started this blog for a class to post my thoughts on various subjects affecting education.
This morning I want to write a few thoughts that I have about the new National Standards we are adopting in the US.  As we begin the process of unpacking and implementing the new standards into our schools there is no doubt that we as a country will be able to compare our state's educational success on a more level playing field.  I hate it that Texas and Alaska did not choose to adopt the new standards!  By adopting these standards it will allow us to compare each states educational success and rank the states based on a common set of standards.  I know that the demographics of a school play a large part in how they rank, and in a time when the public educational system in America is being attacked, it makes me so proud of what we are accomplishing at Warren County Schools.
I hope this is the last change in standards for a while, standards should be given time to be taught and see how they are working, it hasn't been that long since they changed the standards around.  One of the most frustrating things as a teacher is to get something fluent just in time for someone to change it, we need to find what works and stay with it.  There is no sense re-inventing the wheel over and over.  So, we are in high hopes the new standards will be given ample time to work and be measured.  I am anxious to see where my school ranks among the nations best.
I would like to know what your thoughts on the subject are, please post a question or comment and we will have an educational conversation.  Thank you for reading my blog, much more to come.
